Spicewood Garden Apartments:

Spicewood Garden Apartments is located in Sheridan just west of State Road 38 off of 2nd Street. HAND acquired the 6 acres in 2008 and broke ground on the project in May of 2009. The project is currently in its second phase of development which started in Fall 2011. An additional twenty-seven units will be added for a total of fifty-two residences to be enjoyed by seniors aged 55 and older. Each apartment features two bedrooms, appliances including a washer and dryer, accessibility features such as low step showers and grab bars, and emergency pull cords/call buttons. Other amenities include a new community center and leasing office which offer a multi-purpose room and fitness room as well as a community garden area for use by Spicewood residents.

Spicewood Garden Apartments is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver Certified through the United States Green Building Council. Spicewood Garden Apartments, along with Plum Tree Gardens, are the first affordable housing projects to achieve LEED Certification in Central Indiana. HAND also joins an elite group of non-profit organizations to develop LEED Certified Multi-Family Affordable Developments in the State of Indiana. Spicewood Garden features energy efficient fixtures, such as Energy Star rated windows and appliances,programmable thermostats and compact florescent light bulbs. These features will not only help the environment, but they will also benefit the residents by reducing their utility costs as less energy will be used.
