Board Basics, other community training sessions scheduled

Success - Go Get It

In an effort to build capacity among Hamilton County community organizations, HAND Inc. is hosting a series of training sessions this year.

The first, Board Basics, is set for 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 25 at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 1605 E 106th St. in Home Place.

The cost is $20 for a single session or $50 for all three. Additional topics are Neighborhood Association and Homeowners Association Basics, scheduled for July 18 in Fishers, and Effective Strategies for Local Advocacy, scheduled for Oct. 24 in Noblesville.

Board Basics will cover the essentials that every board member should know, including legal duties and other responsibilities. We’ll also talk about common board structures and management styles. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of what being a board member really means.

This session will be led by Prosperity Indiana Program Manager Rachel Mattingly, who provides training and consulting to boards and organizational leaders around the state. She also has experience acting as a board member, currently serving as board president of the Southeast Neighborhood School of Excellence in Indianapolis.

HAND is organizing the training series with support from Old National Bank Foundation.
